The Sheards Debut as Top Cable Reality Show

The new reality series, The Sheards got off to a great start as millions watched the premiered Sunday, April 7, making it one of the top reality shows on cable. The ratings were announced today. The Sheards also trended on social media during its hour-long broadcast.

BET continues to remain in the forefront of quality gospel programming. The series premiere of The Sheards captured an audience of 1.2 million viewers, according to the Nielsen Company. When viewership is combined with the 11 p.m. encore, the episode attracted almost 2 million total viewers. This makes The Sheards the #1 Sunday cable reality series telecast in its 10 p.m. time-slot this year among adult women 18+ and a top 3 Sunday cable reality series debut for 2013 among total viewers.

The Sheards stars Gospel icon Karen Clark Sheard, part of the legendary Clark Sisters, her husband Bishop J. Drew, a mega church pastor in the Motor City and their children, Stellar Award winner and Grammy-nominated gospel songstress Kierra Sheard and producer J. Drew Sheard. The Sheards moves to its regular time slot of Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on April 14.

In other good news for BET, Celebration of Gospel 2013 hosted by Steve Harvey was seen by 1.8 million viewers. Celebration of Gospel remains the #1 gospel telecast on TV for 13 consecutive years. Encore showings of Celebration of Gospel are scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at 10 p.m., Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 17 at 9 p.m. All times are EST.
