In celebration of its 4th year anniversary, Jay Carter’s ONE MusicFest brought out the masses to enjoy good music under the sun. This year’s concert brought in about 7000 attendees from around the country and featured live performances by Luke James, Erykah Badu (who replaced an ailing Amel Larrieux), Goodie Mob, Snoop, Goapele, Pete Rock on the 1’s and 2’s and several other amazing artists. ONE Musicfest has grown to become an interactive block party where guest enjoy nationally and internationally renown DJs, food trucks, vending from local businesses, VIP tents and interactive gaming.

Some of you may be wondering why a “faith-based” mag is at ONE Music Fest. Honestly, I like most of the artists and I think it’s pretty cool to talk to people about faith in uncommon places. You never know who needs to have that conversation.

One MusicFest Stage
Highlighting a diverse musical selection, ONE MusicFest aims at bridging people thru music, exposing them to acts they may never have heard alongside their favorites from yesterday and today. Some past performances included Common, De La Soul, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosius, Doug E Fresh, The Foreign Exchange, The Pharcyde, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, MC Lyte, Eric Roberson, Anthony David and more.

Ms. Badu rocked the stage with an amazing 60 minute set belting out her signature vocals. She later joined Goodie Mob on stage to perform the melodious Outkast classic ‘Liberation’. Definitely a rarely seen performance.

How about those braids... How about those braids…

Erykah Badu “Peace and light this is Erykah Badu, also known as Cerebellum…also known as Analog Girl In A Digital World…also known as Manuela Maria Mexico…also known as She Ill…also known as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown…and you’re logged on to!” Yes, she said all of that!

Mini Cooper booth One of this year’s sponsors was BMW Mini Cooper who gave complimentary rides to One MusicFest ticket holders from a nearby train station. I was one of them and from that ride alone I’m a fan! The Mini Cooper team was also on hand taking promotional pictures and conducting give-a-ways.

Check out the various responses as I talk to Erykah and attendees about faith.
