60,000 Attend Outkast’s #ATLast Homecoming in ATL!

Outkast ATLast

Over the weekend an epic event took place. Six-time Grammy Award winning duo, Outkast headlined a historic 3-day weekend homecoming concert for 20,000 fans each night at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. The event was made possible by Atlanta’s own V103 (WVEE FM), Creative Loafing, Rival Entertainment and The Bowery Presents.

In January 2014, to celebrate Outkast’s 20th anniversary, the duo confirmed plans for a headlining festival tour that began at Coachella. After announcing festival dates around the world, one city was noticeably missing until mid-June, when an online image suddenly appeared online of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton’s and André “3000” Benjamin’s silhouettes against the Atlanta skyline. Fan speculation mounted and was confirmed a day later when the hometown shows were announced in quick succession and sold out in minutes. Together and individually, they have set the bar for originality, blasting genre boundaries and combining mediums since their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was released in 1994.

Uber got in on the celebration too. For every person who signed up for Uber using an Outkast promo code and took a ride that weekend, Uber donated $5 to Big Boi’s Big Kidz & Center of Hope. Opening acts were Janelle Monae, B.o.B, Gipp Goodie, and more artists representing the south.

Outkast #ATLast“I forgive you, now your turn”, “Teacher’s deserve more” (sp) and “The hardest times of our lives” were the captions on Andre’s jumpsuit each night. The gray hair represented wisdom. He’s always been about the message. What current artist/group take that type of responsibility with their art? NONE.

Kim in Outkast tshirt

Love my “Established in 1992” shirt. This was one of the many tshirts, hats, posters, etc sold at the reunion. Hands down, this was the best concert I’ve been to. Everything from quality, production, marketing, merchandising and logistics for 60,000 people…everything was on point.

Long live artists with a real message of social change, love, family, entrepreneurship and culture. Hopefully this reunion will inspire new artists to do the same. If you missed #ATLast, you missed a GOOD one. Watch my IG video of their dope intro of “Bombs Over Baghdad”.
