Universal Pictures hosted an advance screening of their new film, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, on Friday, July 24th at Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanta, along with a Q&A with cast members O’SHEA JACKSON JR., COREY HAWKINS, JASON MITCHELL and PRODUCER ICE CUBE and DIRECTOR F. GARY GRAY moderated by EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, WILL PACKER.
The screening was well attended by music’s top celebrities and influencers including Usher, Luda, B.o.B., Big Krit, Da Brat, David Banner and more.
The film was directed by F. Gary Gray who also directed Boyz in The Hood and Friday. STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON is an instant classic! It tells the story of the formation of NWA, their break-up, the success of the individual careers of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre and also shows the by-products of the NWA like Snoop, Tupac, Eminem, 50 Cent and more.
Even though this is a cast of unknown actors, I’d say they nailed it! Once you see it you’ll remember each one of them as well as reminisce on the NWA classics we all love. For me, NWA was the group who first taught me about what was going on in the West Coast regarding police brutality. The film did an amazing job showing where their songs came from based on their reality living as African American teenagers in Compton.
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON hits theaters August 14th. Thanks Universal Pictures for the invite! Check out the photos from the Atlanta screening below:
