[AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT] The Affects of Childhood Sexual Abuse Addressed In ‘Behind Closed Doors 2’

Ten years ago, Dr. A.L. Smith attended a book club meeting in Atlanta, Georgia with a group of ten well-educated and successful young women. To her surprise, over half of the attendees shared the same story concerning and that a majority of them were speaking about it for the first time. According to recent statistics, one in five girls and one in twenty boys are victims of childhood sexual abuse. Because the crime is often hidden or obscured by fear and shame, victims are subject to long term emotional and psychological effects.

Behind Closed Doors is a collection of novels depicting the perils of childhood sexual abuse which may include, low self-esteem, promiscuity, relationship dysfunction, and substance abuse to name a few.

Behind Closed Doors 1, which was released on September 15, is a heart-felt family saga, written with a touch of urban fiction appeal. For Sierra, Alex and Latrice, the innocence of childhood was lost at an early age. The three cousins transition into womanhood carrying a secret that would influence their lives and threaten to destroy their family. Choosing significantly different paths as they struggle to deal with the psychological effects of abuse, the three are eventually driven apart. Sierra finds herself alone on the dangerous streets of Las Vegas, submerged in her sinful surroundings and Latrice develops an addiction to drugs, spanning a course of twenty years. Alex, the proverbial backbone of the family, has an amazing career as an attorney in Washington D.C., however, true love continues to elude her.Through a series of riveting events, Alex, reconnects with Sierra and Latrice. The meeting would ultimately set the stage for atonement.

The much anticipated Behind Closed Doors 2: Redemption is set to be released in January 2016 in recognition of National Human Trafficking Awareness. Human trafficking is no longer an international phenomena. Domestic human trafficking is reported approximately 200,000 times each year and a majority of the victims are children.

Behind Closed Doors 2 is a well-crafted tale of one little girl’s struggle to overcome circumstances beyond her control. Born and raised on the ruthless streets of East St Louis, Illinois, Dana Toussaint was accustomed to a life of privilege; thanks to her father, a Haitian-born immigrant and notorious drug lord. Dana’s mother; a materialistic southern belle from South Louisiana, is consumed by the good life, as memories of her upbringing in an East New Orleans housing project become a distant memory. In spite of the similarities between the Haitian and Louisiana Creole cultures, the marriage unravels and the unthinkable occurs when Dana’s father abruptly abandons the family. At the age of 12, Dana becomes the ultimate sacrifice and her mother brokers the deal.

What people are saying about Behind Closed Doors 1:

“It’s not often that such a serious subject as sexual abuse can be tackled in a fictional tale and be done with dignity and grace, while also entertaining the reader with a good story. This is exactly what author A.L. Smith accomplishes with her novel, “Behind Closed Doors”. A very engaging story that pulled at my heartstrings and definitely kept me turning pages. Looking forward to reading part two of this series. Well done.” Casey Living, Amazon Reviews
