Today I was invited to a private press luncheon at the W Hotel in Midtown, hosted by the TLC Network to debut Tyler Perry’s new show, “Too Close to Home”. The show is TLC’s first-ever scripted series. It’s also Tyler’s first all white cast, except for one, Ashley Love-Mills.
The show guest stars Heather Locklear (“Melrose Place”) and Matt Battaglia (“Thor”) and stars Danielle Savre (CSI: Miami”) and Kelly Sullivan (“Young & the Restless’). The entire season was shot on Perry’s new home for Tyler Perry Studios, 33-acre, historic Fort McPherson.
Written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry, the series is an 8-episode drama that tells the story of a young woman who secures a highly coveted internship position at the White House and leaves her trailer park home in Alabama in a cloud of dust. She cuts all ties with her family and buries every element of her checkered past. Her friends in Washington think she comes from a wealthy family and know nothing of her real trailer trash upbringing. Suddenly, the real Anna is exposed when she causes a major political scandal and makes national headlines for her part in an affair with one of the nation’s most powerful players. With nowhere to turn, she’s forced to find sanctuary in the only place she has left – home.
We watched the first episode and MAN!! Tyler has done it again! He’s targeting a totally different audience and I truly think he has another addictive winner on his hands.
