BronzeLens Film Festival 2016 Recap

The BronzeLens Film Festival is dedicated to bringing national and worldwide attention to Atlanta as a center for film and film production for people of color. This year definitely didn’t disappoint.

In fact, the mission of the BronzeLens Film Festival is two fold: to promote Atlanta as the new film mecca for people of color; and to showcase films and provide networking opportunities that will develop the next generation of filmmakers.

Every fall, film lovers, actors, and film makers gather in culture-and-heritage-rich Atlanta, Georgia to share a creative platform of education, entertainment and empowerment discussions related to film, as well as television, and the production of both.

Women SuperStars Luncheon

The 7th Annual Women SuperStars Luncheon was nothing less than spectacular and a sold out room of more than 600. Filmmakers, sponsors, and celebs gathered at the Atrium Ballroom of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis on Friday, August 26, while Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Margaret Avery, Dawn Gilliam, Nina Yang Bongiovi, and Julie Dash were honored.

New to BronzeLens, First Glance Friday was a roaring success, with “first glances” at two upcoming and highly anticipated television series: HBO’s “Insecure,” and OWN’s “Queen Sugar.” The audiences enthusiastically welcomed “Insecure” and its creator Isaa Rae for a talkback with BLFF artistic director Deidre McDonald. “Insecure” premieres on HBO on October 9th. The sold-out crowd then settled down to view the first episode of the Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey created “Queen Sugar” and enjoyed the talk back with veteran director Neema Barnette and actor Omar Dorsey, who stars in the new series. “Queen Sugar” premieres on OWN next week, September 6th and 7th.
