Recently I attended a special screening of Instant Family. It’s an adorable film about adoption.
A couple find themselves in over their heads when they adopt three children. When Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15 year old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight.
INSTANT FAMILY is inspired by the real events from the life of writer/director Sean Anders and also stars Octavia Spencer, Tig Notaro and Margo Martindale.
The film is definitely a tear jerker. It opens your eyes to what that world of adoption looks like. Great film for the entire family. In theaters on Friday, November 16th.
Watch this featurette:
I asked the director about cultural issues that arise during the adoption process. A scene in the film addresses, “Should white couples only adopt white children”. Here’s his answer.
