We recently caught up with another soldier changing the culture, RCA artist Dee-1. The former school teacher, positive lyricist and rap star is known for giving jaw-dropping, crowd-surfing performances and invigorating audiences when he takes the stage.
Dee-1 just wrapped his 3’s Up Tour, which kicked off March 2nd and wrapped in his hometown of New Orleans on April 10th.
Signing to RCA Inspiration in 2013, Dee-1’s major-label debut EP “3’s Up,” is out now. Featuring stand out singles such as “Against Us” and “I’m Not Perfect,” the “3’s Up” title reflects 3 key tenets of his mission: Be Real, Be Righteous, Be Relevant.
Mission Vision is a state of mind where you are committed to focusing on three things in life:
1. An ever-growing relationship with God.
2. Using your skills and talents to create a better existence for yourself and your loved ones.
3. In everything you do, be real, be righteous, and be relevant.
The acclaimed hip-hop artist attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, where he also was a middle school teacher post-graduation.
In just a few years, Dee-1’s inspiring lyrics and thrilling live performances have garnered major buzz and critical acclaim, with songs such as his breakout single “Jay, 50, and Weezy,” performing on various tours with Macklemore, Lupe Fiasco, Lecrae, among others, being named a BET Music Matters artist, and more. He was featured in the cypher during the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards, where we first interviewed him on the red carpet.
Dee-1 will take the stage again in New Orleans this summer, performing at the 2015 Essence Festival during the July 4th weekend.
