While in the press room at the Catalyst Leadership Conference, I was introduced to Clayton King, teaching Pastor of Newspring Chruch in Anderson, South Carolina. I loved his energy, mission and all around passion for family, marriage and leadership.
I had never met him before, but couldn’t wait to have a discussion with him about race relations in the church. Yes, race relations. There’s a HUGE divide between blacks and whites that we know God isn’t pleased with.
It’s a discussion we have all the time as African Americans, but we rarely hear non-blacks (specifically white men) talk about the changes that need to be made on their end.
I couldn’t wait to “go there” with him as a means of progression for the culture. Reconciliation, ownership of the past and addressing white priviledge are just a few phrases that shows that he gets it.
