From Sundance to Vogue, the Lethal Ladies of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women (BLSYW) have won the hearts of the media with the new Fox Searchlight documentary, ‘STEP.‘ Notables such as director Ava DuVernay, actresses Gabrielle Union and Angela Bassett and our Forever First Lady, Michelle Obama, have all fallen in love with this authentic portrayal of “Black Girl Magic.”

‘STEP’ documents the senior year of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. Blessin Giraldo, Cori Grainger, Tayla Solomon, Gari McIntyre,
Paula Dofat
shares what life is like trying to graduate and win the step championship. As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest in the troubled city.

This all female school is reshaping the futures of its students’ lives by making it their goal to have every member of their senior class accepted to and graduate from college, many of whom will be the first in their family to do so. Deeply insightful and emotionally inspiring, STEP embodies the true meaning of sisterhood through a story of courageous young women worth cheering for.

Recently Jubilee Mag was invited to chat with the ladies one-on-one. Here’s a few pics!
